Despite best intentions, turning gender equity aspirations into actionable programs — such as mentorships and sponsorships — remains slow to launch across most enterprises. Leadership development opportunities tend to be offered to senior leaders, which means most women can’t receive equal access because they haven’t risen to the ranks in the first place. Widening the gap further is the “sphere of influence” effect that results from fewer interactions by women with senior leaders than their male counterparts, automatically creating a dynamic that favors men. This session examines the correlation between relationships and career success, the role of technology in measuring relationship strength and, most of all, what women can do to fully leverage their internal and external professional bonds.
